Productivity enhancement
Promoting programmes for enhanced productivity and sustainable utilisation of agricultural and natural resources for improved incomes and livelihoods
NAHI works with communities to implement programs for increased productivity and sustainable natural resources management.
Development of natural resources management models/systems
NAHI has put in place systems for enhanced natural resource management in Uganda’s agricultural landscapes as one of the interventions to ensure increased land productivity and benefits from good natural resources management practices.
Productivity enhancement technologies
Increasing productivity for nature-based goods and services is one of the key aspects NAHI is focusing on. While achieving productivity takes a relatively long period of time, we are taking every step necessary to ensure that farmers and forest owners register this earlier in time. Our initial set of interventions involves strengthening of the production base. To this end, we are focussed on supporting producers with inputs such as;
- Modern bee hives to increase honey production as opposed to using traditional bee hives which are twice less in honey production capacity.
- Grafted fruits for improved and increased fruits production
- Supply of bamboo culms for increased bamboo production for watershed management, building and crafts making
More interventions are being designed in the processing and marketing of ecosystem products and services. Branding, eco-labelling and premiums are synonymous with marketing of nature products and are therefore another area of focus for increased product enhancement and marketing and more importantly, re-investment in production.
