Description
The Mparangasi forest block is a riverine which is remnant of tropical rain forest that is highly degraded due to agriculture and other human economic activities such as lumbering. These activities have had a negative impact on the biodiversity populations, especially the fauna. However, there are a number of fauna that still inhabits this skeleto forest block for example apes which include two great ape species, that is, chimpanzees and baboons with others like the black and white colobus monkeys and the velvet monkeys. The presence of these apes is evidence of the former connectivity of the Albertine rift forest blocks in Hoima to Budongo CFR in the north, to Bugoma CFR in the south. This forest block is also habitat to some bird species like the yellow fronted canary, owing its prescence to the forest edge effect and also the agri ecosystem. Nubian woodpeckers, vieillot’s black weaverbirds and the black headed weaverbirds are also a common sighting. Other common species include Bronze mannikins, black and white mannikins, wax bills such as the black crowned waxbills and the common waxbills, red horn bills etc.
